Founders

Made in Whitby was founded by three of Whitby’s enterprising manufacturers. Find out about them below.

Archie – Whitby Sea Salt

Whitby Sea Salt is a family-run business, begun in 2020 with a vision to create a high-quality sea salt using the natural resources of the North Sea. They use traditional salt-making methods and harvest using an old traditional fishing Coble, which owner Archie has carefully restored.

They also produce good quality vinegar, including smoked vinegar in an innovative collaboration with Fortune’s Kippers. Whitby Sea Salt’s commitment to sustainability and locally sourced ingredients makes their products a favourite among chefs, food enthusiasts, and environmentally conscious consumers.

Barry Brown – Fortune’s Kippers

Fortune’s Kippers is a renowned smokehouse in Whitby, and has produced traditionally smoked fish, and meat since 1872, using skills and techniques passed down through several generations.

Their dedication to quality and time-honoured methods has earned them numerous awards and a loyal customer base.
